Patrick and his crew did an amazing job re-doing our backyard! Patrick took our three-unit HOA's wish list for a dream yard and drew up a detailed design and a thoughtful plant list. His team was fast, hardworking, and meticulous in executing the plan. We were impressed by Patrick and his team's attention to detail and dedication-- from perfectly uniform fencing to careful irrigation around each plant. We now have a lovely modern entertaining space with a wooden deck and built-in bench, a soothing water feature that the birds love to bathe in, and a peaceful garden path. Plus cool lighting built into the fencing/stairs/bench and uplighting our plants. Throughout the process, Patrick was sensitive to budget, talked through various options with our HOA, and was a pleasure to work with since he is so enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and friendly. Patrick did an amazing job transforming our garden from an unusable space rife with bushes to an outdoor living room that we now spend every day in. We loved his design and plant choices, and then were really impressed with his crew, who were both super efficient, and multitalented. Patrick had the idea to reuse the stone that was previously used for a pathway for a stone patio. The crew executed this vision flawlessly and very artistically. Here is a challenging request I presented to Patrick: Create a tropical garden in our cool, foggy Forest Hill back yard. Amazingly, he produced a garden that is green and attractive all year, lush, tropical in feel, and that today, about a year and a half later, has thrived, with some of the tall palms and birds of paradise about a third larger in size, already screening our less desirable views. Patrick also said at the outset he wanted to get us into our garden instead of just looking down at it from out balcony. To this end he created lovely gravel stair paths leading to a secluded grotto, and to our surprise, we wander the paths, admiring the progress of this plant and that, and occasionally sipping tea in the sitting area. Patrick taught me a lot as he planned the garden. For instance, he explained that he was repeating certain plants from the front garden such as fuchsias, to create a relationship between the two gardens, one tropical and the other traditional Forest Hill style. It was a pleasure working with Patrick, and I recommend him highly.  - Marcia Elias

As many of you know Northern California is having its worst drought in pretty much ever. So in helping to conserve water, my hubby and I decided to remove our lawn while using the city of Napa's cash for grass incentive. The incentive pays you back $1 for each square foot of lawn you remove. I'd recommend looking into this in your own city to see whats available.

With the lawn coming out we decided to take the opportunity to make some drastic changes to the exterior of our home including painting, lighting, new front door and of course landscaping. While choosing paint colors and fixtures is easy for me, designing a landscape is not. So I reached out to my FB friends and received a recommendation for Patrick Lannan Designs. After seeing his portfolio we were thrilled at the chance to work with someone so talented. Let me just say, from design to installation Patrick was a dream to work with. Not only is he a professional but he's also an excellent communicator and project coordinator. He and his team got the plantings in but also irrigation and lighting systems installed in the course of a weekend (take a look at the night time photos).

One of the fun things of the process was walking through Flora Grubb with Patrick as our guide. This place is super cool! He showed us amazing plants and succulents that would work great in Napa. It's a lot warmer in Napa so it was important that the selections matched our climate.

As you can see from the photos our project turned out to be pretty amazing. Patricks keen eye for color, shape and detail helped to take our boring beige house and turn into the jewel of the neighborhood. Hi everyone, I wanted to add an updated review for Patrick and team. We have a small backyard area and Patrick did wonders. Patrick listened to our needs and wanted to understand our lifestyle in order to select the best plants and arrangements that would work. We used to have a dog and he took that into consideration and designed an areas that were dog friendly! He also worked with some of the plants we already had! Patrick's team was terrific. It was obvious how much care and pride they took with their work. Apparently Houzz only allows 1 review per person so I'm submitting an updated one. While the job was completed last year, I wanted to show photos of how our garden has grown since then. (Two of the photos were when the project was completed and the other two was taken just today.) We all know everything looks great in the beginning but felt it would be helpful for others to see how my garden has grown since then. We continue to be happy and have seen the hummingbirds and bees come back! (That was an early request during the design phase..) Patrick and his crew are amazing. I absolutely love my new deck and landscaping. The design is exactly what I wanted. Everyone Patrick brought to the house to work was lovely. I can't say enough good things about this whole process. I felt like Patrick really listened to what I wanted and designed something that was perfect for me. He takes tremendous pride in the work his crew does. Overall, the best experience I've had doing home improvement. Highly, highly recommend Patrick.
